Fayetteville State University's Office of College Access Programs to Participate in Coca Cola Consolidated Serve Your City Event

Fayetteville State University's Office of College Access Programs has been selected to participate in Coca - Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated (CCBCC) Serve Your City event held Saturday, February 22, 2014. The CCBCC is sponsoring the Serve Your City community initiative in order to encourage residents and organizations to come together for a day of service. During the event, the federal TRIO Programs will host their Annual TRiO/FAFSA Day celebration on the campus of Fayetteville State University.

The CCBCC is seeking to inspire moments of happiness and togetherness by engaging local communities to "Pay It Forward" to the next generation. Residents are encouraged to visit www.Coca-ColaServeYourCity.comhttp://www.coca-colaserveyourcity.com/ and pledge to volunteer with one of three organizations represented in cities within the Tri-County area. In Fayetteville, residents can choose from FSU's Office of College Access Programs, Fayetteville Urban Ministries, and the Boys and Girls Clubs. The organization that acquires the most volunteers will win a $2,500 grant.

The Office of College Access Programs serves over 2,000 middle and high school students in the Sandhills Region (Cumberland County, Hoke County, and Robeson County) annually through the Global Competitiveness Career & College Readiness Summer Institute. The funds will be used to purchase snacks/meals for program participants during the 2014 summer programs.

The Office of College Access Programs' mission is to encourage and assist youth who are traditionally under-represented in post-secondary education with preparation for, entry into, and completion of a post -secondary education. The Office of College Access Programs is comprised of federally funded programs that include GEAR UP, Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound (Classic), Upward Bound Math & Science, AmeriCorps VISTA and 21st Century Community Learning Centers. The office provides college preparatory services to students, parents, and educators in Cumberland, Hoke, and Robeson Counties.
