Prairie View A&M University News February 2018 STUDENTS RECEIVE $91,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS On Friday, the U.S. Army and 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston hosted a half-day college orientation event at Prairie View A&M University as part of their 2018 College Tour. These entities have partnered to engage and inform possible prospects on the countless opportunities available to them while in pursuit of their college degrees and career goals. The U.S. Army and 100 BMOH hosted students from Lamar High School, Westside High School, Waltrip High School, Mickey Leland Preparatory Academy and Barbara Jordan High School. Kenneth Robinson, Jr. is the President of the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston and said it made sense bringing the partnership between the U.S. Army and 100BMH to Prairie View because of their connections to campus. "It just made sense and a lot easier for us," said Robinson. At the beginning of the orientation, students went on a campus tour to give them a college experience. Following the tour, the students returned to the Willie A. Tempton Sr., Memorial Student Center for a presentation on behalf of the PVAMU Army ROTC program. U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Reginald Williams, professor of Military Science at PVAMU, presented two PVAMU students, Angela Randall and Michael Nnadozie, with $91,000 in scholarships. Following the presentation, the students were able to discuss leadership and the characteristics and traits that make a successful college student. "What I'm hoping the students take away is the opportunity to visit a school," said Williams, "I hope it motivates and energizes them to complete their application process." They were also able to gather information from the Admissions and Financial Aid offices, cadets, and Army recruiters. "I want them to understand the role of a leader," said Robinson, "Hopefully they will become better leaders by the end of this presentation." SANDRA M.
