Albany State University Faculty Join Initiative to Strengthen HBCU Online and Blended Instruction

Faculty members from Albany State University (ASU) will participate in a 25-week Effective Online Teaching Practices course offered as part of the Excellence in Online Instruction initiative.

"Our online presence is increasing for both our online courses as part of hybrid degree programs, and fully online programs. Participating in this course will assist our faculty members in ensuring the success of ASU students by improving their online teaching skills," said ASU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Angela Peters.

The Excellence in Online Instruction initiative is part of a collaboration between Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), and is funded by a grant from Bank of America.

ASU faculty will be joining more than 650 colleagues from 12 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as they learn and implement equity-promoting, evidence-based teaching practices shown to improve student engagement, persistence, course completion, and learning.

Other participating institutions include:

  • Alabama State University

  • Bowie State University (MD)

  • Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CA)

  • Harris-Stowe State University

  • Medgar Evers College-CUNY (NY)

  • Norfolk State University (VA)

  • Southern University Law Center (LA)

  • Tennessee State University (TN)

  • Virginia State University

  • West Virginia State University, and

  • Winston-Salem State University (NC)

Dr. Harry L. Williams, president & CEO of TMCF said that the initiative will go a long way in helping to ensure quality teaching continues online for the nation's most vulnerable students.
