Fayetteville State University News March 17, 2017 Spellman Becomes Fayetteville State University Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Carlton Spellman has been named Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance at Fayetteville State University (FSU). The announcement was made today by FSU Chancellor James. A. Anderson. Spellman comes to FSU from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNC-P) where he served as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Administration. In his role at FSU, Spellman will be the Chief Finance Officer and will oversee the budget, controller, purchasing, accounts payable, treasurer/bursar, and business service offices. He also will be responsible for facilities management. Spellman is no stranger to FSU. From July 2013 to February 2014, he served as Interim Chief Financial Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance. From July 2007 to July 2013, he served as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Budget and Financial Planning. "I am extremely pleased that Carlton will be coming back to be with his Bronco family," Anderson said. "He is familiar with the business operations at FSU and will play a vital role in helping maintain the success that we have enjoyed as it relates to our fiscal affairs. He is a seasoned finance administrator and I could not be more pleased that he will be heading our business division." Spellman replaces Ken Craig who will retire in April. Craig became Interim Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance in July 2014, and was permanently named to the post in December of that year. In addition to serving as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Administration at UNC-P, Spellman also served as interim Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration from June 2015 to May 2016. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration, both from St. Leo University in St. Leo, Florida. A veteran of the United States Marines Corps, Spellman served from 1984 to 2007. Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina and the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state.
