Howard University Recognizes Global Simulation Week With Health Simulation Center Events

The Howard University Simulation & Clinical Skills Center will hold Open House events during the Global Healthcare Simulation Week, Sept. 17-21. The week is intended to boost awareness of the importance of simulation to healthcare.

The Howard University Simulation & Clinical Skills Centerhttp://www.howard.edu/simcenter/ has comprehensive Accredited Education Institute (AEI) status from the American College of Surgeons (ACS). The Center is under the direction of Debra Ford, M.D., as medical director, and Tamara Owens, as director. Healthcare Simulation Week, sponsored by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, celebrates professionals who use healthcare simulation to improve healthcare delivery.

The Simulation & Clinical Skills Center's open house events are scheduled is as follows:

Simulation Center Open House - Sept. 18 and Sept. 20, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on both days

Clinical Skills Center Open House - Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon

Entry to both locations, Seeley Mudd Building (College of Medicine), first floor

"Our Simulation and Clinical Skills Centers build upon the historic legacy of Howard University through a commitment to innovative simulation-based educational programs that are designed to train compassionate global healthcare leaders of the future," said Owens.

Healthcare simulation is a learning tool that re-creates clinical environments to provides realistic healthcare events. The purpose of healthcare simulation is to teach new skills, refresh old skills and improve the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
