Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well. Please join me in welcoming Carla R. Clift as new Director of Library Services at J. F. Drake State Technical College in Huntsville, Alabama.  She was afforded this opportunity after the May 31, 2011 retirement of Mrs. Kathryn B. Neal who had served as Head Librarian/Media Specialist at the College for 23 years.

Carla began working in the field of librarianship while matriculating as an undergraduate student at Alabama A&M University and student employee at Redstone Scientific Information Center (RSIC) Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, where she assisted patrons in the usage of highly classified documents.  Her employment there sparked her interest in libraries.  Upon her graduation, she was hired at Alabama A&M University to serve as Technical Services Associate in the J. F. Drake Memorial Learning Resources Center.  She was later assigned additional duties which included working in University Archives.  Carla was delighted to serve her alma mater.

While serving in a paraprofessional position, she had a desire to learn more about the field and to become a professional librarian.  She enrolled in the Library Information Technology Certification Program at Bluegrass Community and Technical College.  After completion of the certification in Library Information Technology in 2006, her next ambition was to enroll in a master's program.  She enrolled in the Master of Library and Information Studies Program at The University of Alabama.  Carla completed the program and received her master's degree in May 2010.  She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Alabama A&M University.

Her new position enables her to give back to the community in which she was born and reared.  In her spare time, Carla enjoys reading, listening to music and supporting both her alma maters.

We are excited for Carla in this new position and look forward to her involvement in HBCU Library Alliance activities.

Send congrats to Carla at:
