ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN, UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES, VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position has primary responsibility for the operations of the Acquisitions Unit and oversight of the materials collection budget. The position is responsible for the order and receipt of all library materials, including print monographs and serials, e-resources, and other formats as they evolve. The position serves as the primary contact for a wide variety of resource and service vendors; and develops and maintains relationships with University departments responsible for procurement and financial services. The position manages the bindery process and oversees the processing of gifts, theses and dissertations. Other duties include monitoring emerging trends in acquisitions; continued professional development; and serving on appropriate library, university, and external committees and working groups. This is a non-tenured faculty position reporting to the Associate Librarian for Technical Services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program and considerable experience working with library resource acquisitions, preferably in an academic setting. Evidence of experience working with an integrated library system; demonstrated experience working with e-resources vendors and negotiating and monitoring licensing agreements; familiar with current and emerging cataloging practices and standards, including LCC, LCSH, MARC21 and RDA; proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, specifically Excel and Access; excellent communication and analytical skills; supervisory experience; commitment to service; and the ability to work cooperatively and quickly learn and adapt to new technology. Must be available to work an occasional evening and rotating weekend assignment as needed.
