One Day, One Goal, One Hampton: Hampton University Aims for 1,868 Donors for 24-hour Fundraiser on April 12

On Friday, April 12, Hampton University will celebrate its 6th annual Day of Giving.

Hamptonians at home and at heart will unite together during the 24-hour fundraising event. This unique opportunity affords alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff and friends to engage and celebrate the spirit of philanthropy. This year, the University aims to encourage 1,868 donors to make a gift to Hampton in a big way!

"I encourage not only alumni, students, faculty and staff, but also community members who support the mission of this prestigious University to answer the 24-hour call to give and make a monetary donation within their means on this impactful day of giving," said Dr. William R. Harvey, Hampton University President for 41 years.  "Each financial contribution made is an investment and has an immediate impact on our current and future Hamptonians.  Those who invest financially in the mission and work of Hampton University have my special gratitude."

Each donation made during this powerful giving event help support scholarships, groundbreaking research, campus improvements and much more. Making a gift no matter how big or small also helps Hampton stay competitive in national rankings, increases the value of every degree, and gives charitable organizations and foundations the confidence to invest in the University.

"The Hampton University Day of Giving is a time for the Hampton community to come together and share in the commitment to building a stronger Hampton and improving the quality of the college experience for Hamptonians to come," said Brint Martin, Director of Alumni Affairs.  "This powerful giving experience supports the mission of Hampton -inspiring and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow - and we're hoping to encourage the many alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of Hampton to commit to building a stronger Hampton and give back to this important cause."

Gifts made of any size can be designated by the donor to any area of the University. Whether to a support a particular school, department, scholarship account or the general fund; every donation counts and is tax deductible.

Donors have several ways to make their mark throughout the day. Opportunities include giving in person, calling during the 24-hour phon-a-thon, visiting onehamptonu.com to fill out an online giving form or by mailing a donation to the office of Alumni Affairs at 38 Indian Road.  Giving challenges will also be promoted throughout the entire day to help raise even more. Participation in the challenges can unlock additional funds from a challenge sponsor.

Donors can also purchase a ticket to the Spring Crab & Craft Fest and party with a purpose on Friday, April 12 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.  Guests will meet at the Emancipation Oak to enjoy all-you-can-eat crabs, a live DJ, 50/50 raffle, giveaways and more.  All proceeds support the general scholarship fund and count as a donation for the Day of Giving.  For more information or to purchase tickets please call 757-727-5425 or visit hamptonalumnievents.comhttp://news.hamptonu.edu/release/hamptonalumnievents.com.

In addition, a rally will be held outside of the Student Center from noon to 2 p.m. for students, faculty and staff.  Festivities will include a live DJ, student performances, giveaways and more.

During the 2018 Day of Giving 1,238 donors gave more than $710,000 to the University.
