WVSU Workshop Focuses on Scientific Data Visualization

West Virginia State University (WVSU) is hosting a free workshop to teach faculty and students about science data visualization Aug. 25-26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the University's Land-Grant Administration Building on campus. This two-day training targets scientists and students majoring in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields with information on all aspects of data visualization.

The course will teach best practices for dealing with diverse scientific data, demonstrating a variety of methods, techniques and a range of freely available software. The workshop will take real-world problems for which visualization is needed and walk attendees through the process of visualizing data and gaining insight.

WVSU currently has a High Performance Computer (HPC) system for data visualization, nicknamed "Stinger," located in the campus library for scientists and students to view and analyze research data at larger quantities and quicker speeds. The training workshop will provide an overview of the system's uses and functions.

The workshop is being offered by the Virtual School of Computational Science and Engineering (VSCSE) and the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE).

Space is limited, and registration is required. To register, contact Dr. Sridhar A. Malkaram at smalkaram@wvstateu.edumailto:smalkaram@wvstateu.edu or (304) 766-5168.

The WVSU Land-Grant Administration Building is located at 4015 Fairlawn Ave. in Institute.
