WSSU Announces Information Technology Initiative to Support Its Strategic Plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 30, 2010

Winston-Salem State University has announced an information technology initiative designed to enhance technological support for the university’s strategic plan.

“Our strategic plan has identified goals and objectives to provide our students with the support they need to be successful at Winston-Salem State University and after they graduate,” said Chancellor Donald J. Reaves.  “In June, we engaged Robinson Group Consulting, Inc. to assist the university in improving governance and decision-making around information technology, to make recommendations for enhancing structure, process, policies and procedures, and to advise on areas where we might invest to enhance the infrastructure to better support instructional technology and distance learning.

“We are working with the Robinson Group to understand better the specific requirements, opportunities and issues that need to be addressed within all areas of the campus and to develop a strategic plan for information technology that supports our strategic goals,” Reaves added.

As part of the restructuring to support the technology initiatives Dr. Glen Holmes, who since July 2005 has served as associate provost for information resources, will leave his position to join the School of Education and Human Performance where he is a tenured member of the faculty with the rank of full professor.  Dr. Holmes, among other duties, will be working with that school’s faculty to develop new courses to enhance the curriculum in instructional technology.

During the transition period, Robinson Group Consulting will continue to provide leadership for the technology initiative and Dr. Dorcas Colvin, executive vice chancellor for management and strategic initiatives, will provide oversight for the successful achievement of the results that this engagement is designed to deliver.  In this role, she will facilitate the work of the Robinson Group and serve as a liaison between the department staff and the university’s leadership team.  She also will manage the national search for a new chief information officer with a goal of having that person in place by early 2011.
