Hampton University Students Learn the World of Business from Returning Alumni
Students at Hampton University had the opportunity to spend an evening with industry professionals during a panel discussion on Monday. The event, put on by the Career Counseling and Planning Center and the Office of Development, took place in the Hampton University Student Ballroom.
Among the panelist, all of which are HU alumni, were Gena Pemberton, Finance Recruiter at Johnson and Johnson, Dionne Rogers, Vice President/General Manager of National Client Group American Express, Wendy Walker, Vice President of finance at PEAK Campus, Tiyale Hayes, Senior Vice President of Consumer Insights at BET/Viacom, Nicole Pullen Ross, Managing Director for the Mid-Atlantic Region Head Goldman Sachs and Company, and Kalima Mayo Perez, Vice President of Human Capital Management at Goldman Sachs.
Students asked panelist questions ranging from, 'what are the best ways to prepare for an interview?' to 'how does one achieve success once they land the job?'
"There are ways that you can understand the culture of an organization and set your self up for success with being genuine," said Perez. "There were a lot of things that I had to learn in terms of adapting and being successful in my career."
"The quality of your questions (during an interview) tells so much about how prepared you are, how interested you are and how much you focused on the opportunity," said Walker.
