SGA Officer Accepted into HBCU Student Vanguard Program

The prominent Woodson Vanguard Leadership Program has selected  SGA Chief of Staff Dax Craig for the program's 2020 HBCU Student Vanguard Program.

The initiative is composed of a cohort of 25 student leaders charged with creating impactful change at HBCUs and reshaping the HBCU narrative. Cohort members receive leadership training and access to a broad national network of professionals.

Craig, a senior studying chemistry, was one of 25 HBCU students chosen out of a competitive pool of HBCU talent from across the country. Each applicant had to go through an extensive review process.

"Being accepted into the Woodson Vanguard Leadership Program validates even more that the work that I’m doing on campus is not in vain.  The program places me in a position to embody the national change I want to see in the HBCU community. The road to change has just begun, and I will be enjoying the ride along the way," Craig said.

The undergraduate researcher from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has conducted research in biomechanics and inorganic chemistry. He has been an active member in campus organizations, serving in the capacity of chapter president, vice President and committee chair. He thoroughly enjoys project management, community service and exposure to new technological innovations.

Post-graduation, Craig’s long-term goal is to become an intellectual property attorney.

His philosophy of life is based on his favorite quote by Marcus Garvey: "If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence. you have won before you started.”
