Greetings Colleagues,
I trust you're well. Today I'm celebrating, with excitement, the upcoming HBCU Library Alliance 5th Biennial Membership Meeting, scheduled Sunday through Tuesday, October 21-23, 2012 in New Orleans, Louisiana! The meeting's theme is "Protecting Our Legacy, Preserving Our Story: A Decade of Investment in HBCU Libraries."
This meeting offers a prime opportunity to hear from you and discuss future directions and sustainability options. As we strategically move into the next decade of support to member libraries, we must have your input and commitment as we consider what's ahead for the Alliance. Additionally, the Board is updating Bylaws that will require your review and approval.
DECADE OF INVESTMENT SUPPORTERS
To celebrate this momentous occasion, you are invited to participate in the "Decade of Investment" financial challenge. This $100.00 challenge celebrates the HBCU Library Alliance's first ten years of progressive service to member libraries. The goal of the challenge is to achieve 100% participation and I'm depending on you to join us and encourage your colleagues to make this commitment. Decade of Investment supporters will be listed in the program booklet and personally acknowledged at the October Membership Meeting.
All commitment checks must be received by September 1st to be included in the program booklet. Please mail your Decade of Investment commitment check to my attention at this address:

Photographic Preservation Pre-Conference - Sunday, October 21st
All are invited to attend the Sunday, October 21st Photographic Preservation Pre-Conference. The Pre-Conference will provide additional education on photograph preservation, pairing HBCU demonstration project participants with project consultants to address topics in best practices, preservation planning, risk assessment, and advocacy and fundraising.
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is graciously funding this project which involves the preservation of significant photographic collections within HBCU's. Our attendance at the pre-conference is a show of support to the HBCU project colleagues and a show of appreciation to the Foundation. As an incentive, the first fifty members who register for the pre-conference and Membership meeting will receive a $600.00 travel stipend. The stipend cannot be used for registration at the Membership meeting and will be mailed to the member's institution after the Membership meeting. Only one stipend is allowed per member library. There are ten remaining slots for the pre-conference.
Fundraising Dinner - Monday, October 22nd
A fundraising dinner is being planned for Monday evening, October 22nd, 6:30 - 9:00 at the Oceana Grill, located in the French Quarter just a few minutes from the Marriott Hotel. The Oceana is family owned and serves authentic New Orleans cuisine. At least 50 guests are required for us to reserve the space and host the dinner. The total cost of the dinner is $60.00 per person, which includes a $19.00 per person donation to the Alliance. The New Orleans per diem rate is $70.00; your Monday breakfast, breaks and lunch are included in the registration fee. It will be such a pleasure for us to dine together in celebration of the accomplishments of the Alliance.
Advance registration is required by the Oceana Grill. If you are interested in attending, paste this link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8N3CGJ5 into your address bar and enter your name and e-mail address. We have to provide a total count to Oceana by Monday, June 4th. I'll post a message to the list with the final count in early June. Once the count requirement is met, the registration document will be updated allowing your institution to be billed for the $60.00.
