South Carolina State, Claflin to Share $1.4M Teacher Education Grant

The South Carolina Legislature awarded a $1.4 million grant to South Carolina State University's (SCSU) Department of Education to fund the Teacher Education Initiative in partnership with Claflin University (CU). As both colleges plan to improve minority access to careers in education, CU will receive $400,000 of SCSU's gift.

The schools plan to recruit high school students and guide them on a pathway toward graduating from teacher education programs through counseling, mentoring and summer enrichment opportunities through the Teacher Education Initiative.
