Cheyney University's Clothing Boutique Prepares Students for Internships and Job Interviews

Cheyney University's Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD)http://www.cheyney.edu/career-services/index.cfm staff is getting ready for five Career and Graduate School Fairshttp://www.cheyney.edu/campusuite/modules/news.cfm?grp_id=5700&news_id=64771 planned on consecutive Wednesdays beginning October 19 and running through November 16. Those events will provide upperclassmen an opportunity to discuss their career plans with business representatives attending the Fairs.

Part of that process involves preparation for internships and job interviews which require self confidence, an 'elevator speech', high quality resumes, and a professional 'look' for the competitive edge necessary to secure employment.

While the Center offers counseling and training programs in those areas, it also operates The Treasures for Success Clothing Boutique which outfits students for the Fairs and internships. The Boutique offers a selection of ladies suits, trousers, skirts, jackets, dresses, shoes and accessories and men's suits, shirts, ties and belts to Cheyney students. CCPD staff also offer advice on interview techniques.

According to Lisa Blounthttp://www.cheyney.edu/campusuite/modules/faculty.cfm?faculty_id=25124&grp_id=5685, CCPD's Assistant Director of Career Programs-Internships, "We provide business attire for men and women ranging from jackets to shoes and everything in between so that we can prepare our students for success.

"We need donations of new or gently worn professional and business-casual suits, dresses, skirts, dress pants, jackets and blouses which are in very good condition and have been purchased in the last three to four years. We also need accessories including jewelry, handbags, scarves and dress shoes (heels and flats) for women. The Boutique also stocks mens apparel including suits, jackets, trousers, shirts, ties and dress shoes."

Currently, The Treasures for Success Clothing Boutique, located in Marcus Foster Alumni Student Center, is in need of donations of plus size clothing, shoes, accessories, and big/tall men's sizes. The Treasures for Success Clothing Boutique is open by appointment which can be scheduled by calling 610-399-2033.
