Students, Faculty Share Ideas at Annual Research Symposium
Students at Alabama State University and in the River Region will have the opportunity to present their research, scholarly and creative work alongside faculty at the 2014 Research Symposium March 19-20 at ASU's John Garrick Hardy Student Center. The two-day event is sponsored by ASU's College of Science, Mathematics and Technology.
"The annual symposium enables students and faculty at ASU and regional colleges and universities to promote their research, exchange ideas, and learn from one another," said Dr. Peter A. Noble, associate professor of microbiology. "The symposium also provides the opportunity for young scientists to present research to their peers as well as hone their presentation skills and answer questions."
The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Oadele Ogunseitan, professor and chair of the Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention and professor of social ecology at the University of California Irvine. Ogunseitan is the author of the top-selling book "Microbial Diversity: Form and Function in Prokaryotes."
Ogunseitan earned a doctorate in microbiology at the University of Tennessee and the Master of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. He has numerous teaching and mentoring awards. In addition, Ogunseitan has been a Global Environmental Assessment Fellow at Harvard University and a Fellow at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Mass.
