POSITION NUMBER:      FA183

HIRING SALARY RANGE: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position serves as the University Archivist and provides supervision and management for all aspects of archival and special collections management, including administrative and financial management, virtual and physical maintenance of paper and digital collections, and service to researchers and donor relations.  Also, will coordinate and manage a program of digital, multimedia and paper based records and historical documents; will define and apply the methodology and standards for best practices to born digital and digitized collections; will lead the implementation of digital technologies for online accessible collections; will supervise part-time staff and students; and plan, develop, maintain, and process procedures and manuals to support the management and processing of all archival content.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program in MLS/MLIS, History, or Archival Studies with at least five years' experience in special collections or archives in a university or research library is required.  Experience with digital library development in the context of special collections and archives; knowledge of emerging metadata standards  (Dublin Core, EAD, etc.); demonstrated experience with digital content management systems (CONTENTdm, Archivists' Toolkit, etc.); supervisory experience required; demonstrated project management skills are required; knowledge or coursework in Virginia state history with special emphasis on African-Americans is preferred; knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and other web based applications required; strong organizational skills required; excellent oral and written communication skills required; and proven track record of good customer service skills is  desired.
