Coahoma Community College News December 18, 2019 Coahoma to Hold Spring Presidential Address, Latino to Facilitate Coahoma Community College has announced that CCC President Dr. Valmadge T. Towner will hold a Spring 2020 Presidential Address/Professional Development Seminar on Monday, January 6, 2020, at 8:30 a.m., in the Pinnacle. According to College officials, the event's purpose is to welcome CCC faculty and staff members back to campus from the institution's Holiday Break and to offer a multi-area professional development session. Dr. Rolonda Brown, dean of the Division of Academic Affairs, is hopeful that the event will leave CCC faculty and staff members inspired, informed, and better equipped to strengthen student-success initiatives at the college. "I am hoping that the college walks away from this professional development seminar feeling like we have more tools to use to help our students succeed. I also hope that they leave with a little bit more motivation. I want faculty and staff members to be inspired to continue what we are doing to help our students." Dr. Jennifer Latino, senior principal strategic consultant - Ellucian, will serve as the facilitator of the event. According to the Ellucian website, Latino has built her career through experiences with a variety of student-success initiatives, including first-year experience, first-year seminars; orientation programming; early alert and outreach; academic support; career development, academic recovery programming, and disability services. "Dr. Latino was chosen because of the topics she is qualified to speak on. We wanted someone that could talk about retention rates and a little about the varying capacities that we are working on with our Achieving the Dream initiative," said Brown. She is qualified to present on numerous topics ." Prior to joining Ellucian, Latino served as the assistant vice president for Student Success at Campbell University, where she provided leadership for a variety of student-success initiatives aimed at supporting the student experience and enhancing student retention. In her current role, she supports institutions through the implementation of new technology solutions, the development and implementation of strategic planning initiatives, and the creation and execution of effective data governance structures. Brown shared that the institution's most recent report card played a considerable role in Latino being secured for the seminar. Various areas of the findings have been heavily analyzed and will be key topics during the event. "One of the motivations behind bringing Dr. Latino was the review of our 2018 Report Card," said Brown. "We've done a lot of things right and have been making some outstanding progress over the past three years, but we also want to go past that. We want to improve. We want to do more and continue where we are successful, but most importantly, we want to improve across the board."
