Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Today I'm celebrating the 1960 founding of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) by young leaders of the sit-in protest movement. SNCC sought to coordinate youth-led nonviolent, direct-action campaigns against segregation and other forms of racism. SNCC members played an integral role in Freedom Rides, the 1963 March on Washington, and voter education projects.
Emory Center for Digital Scholarship Collaboration

I'm excited to announce a new collaboration with Emory University's Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS)! The ECDS http://digitalscholarship.emory.edu/ provides consultation and support for digital teaching and is housed at Emory's Robert W. Woodruff Library. A major goal of this collaboration is to strengthen the community of digital learners, share experiences and maintain dialogue for future opportunities.

Emory Center for Digital Scholarship/HBCU Library Alliance Summer Institute - Call for Applicants

I'm also announcing a call for applicants for a week-long workshop for twenty HBCU Library Alliance colleagues. The workshop is scheduled for Sunday, June 15th through Friday, June 20th in Atlanta at the ECDS and will focus on acquiring technical skills for building select digital projects. Funds from an ECDS Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant will cover the costs associated with the workshop, including lodging, meals, materials and supplies. ECDS will reimburse round-trip travel up to $500.00.

Training will include sessions on Data Architecture, Copyright Guidance, Scholarly Communication and tools such as Omeka, www.omeka.orghttp://www.omeka.org, which can be used to create on-line exhibits, WordPress, www.wordpress.orghttp://www.wordpress.org, for on-line tour guides and Zotero, www.zotero.orghttp://www.zotero.org, which can be used to collect, cite and share sources.
