The Lilly Library, the rare books, manuscripts, and special collections library of Indiana University, Bloomington has posted a position for a full-time tenure-track librarian cataloger: INDIANA UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES-BLOOMINGTON Assistant Librarian/Associate Librarian Rare Books and Special Collections Cataloger, Lilly Library The Lilly Library, Indiana University, Bloomington seeks an experienced rare book specialist for the position of Rare Books and Special Collections Cataloging Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, Lilly Library, the librarian will serve as chief rare books cataloger at the Lilly Library and will catalog books and special collections materials in various languages and formats. Founded in 1820, Indiana University-Bloomington has grown from a small state seminary into the flagship campus of a great public university with over 39,000 students and 1,800 faculty members. With a world-renowned research reputation, IUB is also known for its innovative academic programs and attentiveness to undergraduates. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010, the Lilly Library’s holdings include about 400,000 books, approximately 150,000 pieces of sheet music, and more than 7.5 million manuscripts in more than 1700 discreet collections. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Rare Books and Special Collections Cataloging Librarian is responsible for original and enhanced cataloging of rare books and special collections materials in specialized areas, e.g. early or fine printing, major rarities, and general books, mostly of the hand press period. Other duties include advising and consulting with other catalogers on bibliographical terminology and description, collations, and other cataloging problems specific to rare book cataloging and remaining current with the changing body of cataloging rules for rare materials including DCRM, AACR2, RDA, MARC21, LCSH, and Library of Congress classification. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: • ALA-accredited MLS • Demonstrated experience with DCRM, AACR2, MARC2, cataloging components of OCLC, and local integrated online library systems • Competence in the techniques and terminology of descriptive bibliography • Working knowledge of Latin and at least two other foreign languages (Greek, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and other modern European languages preferred • Strong oral and written communication skills • 3-5 years post-MLS rare book cataloging experience • Must be able to meet the requirements of a tenure-track librarian position Preferred: • Second degree in a discipline related to the strengths of the Lilly Library collections • Knowledge of NACO procedures strongly preferred • Experience with SIRSI/Unicorn products SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and education, benefits include a university healthcare plan, university-funded base retirement plan, a 100% university paid group life insurance plan, and a generous paid time off plan.
