Colleagues,

I trust you're well. LaVerne McLaughlin at Albany State forwards this announcement.

Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Library Services and

Executive Director of GALILEO

The Board of Regents, University System of Georgia (USG), an organizational body that includes 30 public institutions of higher learning in the U.S. state of Georgia, seeks a creative, dynamic, and committed leader to marshal the financial, personnel, and information resources of its Academic Library Services, and to serve as the Executive Director of GALILEO, Georgia's virtual library.

In 1995, the University System of Georgia (USG) launched a visionary project to provide equal access to information and to improve the quality of library services for all Georgians. Since then, GALILEO has grown to provide thousands of full-text library resources to more than 2,000 institutions including the USG, public K-12 schools, public libraries, technical colleges, a group of private academic colleges and universities, and a group of private K-12 schools. The GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries) initiative is an extension of GALILEO, providing the library management system for USG institutions and supporting universal borrowing among them.  Also encompassed within GALILEO are the Digital Library of Georgia digitization program and the GALILEO Knowledge Repository scholarly commons, along with Affordable Learning Georgia that focuses on reducing the cost of college textbooks.

Among the duties of the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) is oversight of the USG Academic Library Services unit and direction and coaching for other USG staff that provide GALILEO, GIL, and other library support. The AVC develops and tracks budgets; communicates project status and needs; coordinates with appropriate committees involved in GALILEO governance, as well as other academic groups; and communicates with vendors, including negotiating contracts and licenses.

Required qualifications include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent and seven or more years of related library and administrative experience. An advanced degree in relevant area is preferred.
