The James B. Duke Memorial Library at Johnson C. Smith University has
two job openings in the evening. The library is looking for an Evening
Library Supervisor and Evening Library Assistant II.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position:                              Evening Library Supervisor

Department:                      James B. Duke Library

Division:                              Academic Support Services

Opening Date:                  September 21, 2011

Closing Date:                      Open Until Filled

Responsibilities:              The Evening Library Supervisor will be
responsible for managing all the daily circulation activities in the
evenings which includes routine check of the library facility, enforcing
library policies,

assist in maintaining security of library resources, and supervising
student workers, and library evening assistants. The Evening Library
Supervisor will also assist in web services for the library, reporting
any library

repairs or maintenance services. Reports to the Director of Library
Services. Manage the Center of Information Desk (Circulation Activities)
and library services in the evenings.

Qualifications:                A minimum of a bachelor's degree is
required with at least 2 years experience directly related to the
primary duties of the position. Candidate must have knowledge and
understanding in providing

library services or customer services in a diverse environment.
Candidate must have good technology skills, writing skills, and
communication skills. Prefer candidate who has worked with college
students, familiar with library

services and procedures, and have web design experiences. Managerial
experience is required. Will consider candidate with a combination of
work experience and education.

Responsibilities:              Under the direct supervision of the
Evening Library Supervisor the Evening Library Assistant II will perform
the acquisitions process for new books, gift books, audio-visual
materials, and standing orders for the library by conducting searches in
bibliographic databases, preparing requisitions, and receiving purchase
order numbers. Place orders for materials using the appropriate
electronic ordering software or place direct orders. Receive and process
incoming acquisitions mail and shipments to verify accuracy of order
fulfillment. Claim materials that are not received from the vendor.
Prepare and maintain records relative to acquisition activities.
Complete physical processing of new books, gift books, and media
materials, i.e. labeling, stripping, stamping, applying barcodes, etc.
Organize access to media equipment for faculty and staff by arranging,
delivering, and setting up equipment.  Maintain usage records and
inventory of media equipment.  Perform evening circulation activities
and closing of the library at night. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:                A minimum of an associate's degree is
required. Candidate should be proficient in record keeping, typing,
advance computer skills, and familiar with library automation systems.
Good customer services skills and knows how to work independently and
collaboratively.  Prefer someone who has worked as acquisition assistant
or library assistant in a public or academic library. Will consider
candidate with a combination of work experience and education.
