A lifetime of “never taking no for an answer” took television journalist, John Quiñones, from migrant farm work and poverty to more than 30 years at ABC News, the anchor desk at 20/20 and Primetime. A 7-time Emmy award winner, Quiñones broke through barriers, won the highest accolades, and became a role model.

The San Antonio native will return home to speak at St. Philip’s College on Oct. 14, 11 a.m. in the Watson Fine Arts Center. SPC, the only college in the nation federally-designated as both a historically Black college (HBCU) and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), will host its first in-person President’s Lecture Serieshttps://www.alamo.edu/spc/about-spc/leadership/president/pls/ event in several years.

The St. Philip’s College President’s Lecture Series provides opportunities for the college and the community to hear speakers’ perspectives on a broad range of local, regional, national and international issues. The lectures are provided at no cost to the audience and are designed to attract students, faculty, staff and the greater San Antonio community.

SPC President Dr. Adena Williams Loston has hosted author, Margot Lee Shetterly; entertainer, LeVar Burton; scientist, Temple Grandin; actress, April Hernandez-Castillo and others as part of the series.

Quiñones, host and creator of What Would You Do?, the highly-rated, hidden camera ethical dilemma newsmagazine now in its 14th season, has literally become “the face of doing the right thing” to millions of fans.

It’s a role that he has enthusiastically embraced off camera. This work and his many achievements were recently recognized with honorary doctorate degrees from Davis & Elkins College (West Virginia) and Utah Valley University.

The President's Lecture Series event is part of our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. For more information about Hispanic Heritage Month, visit alamo.edu/spc/hhmhttps://www.alamo.edu/spc/news-events/events/hispanic-heritage-month/.
