ASU campus photographer David Campbell, along with the Division of Marketing and Communications, recently won several awards during the University Photographers Association of America's annual symposium.

Alabama State University photographer David Campbell was recently recognized for his work by the University Photographers Association of America at the organization's annual symposium held June 20-26 at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich. Campbell, along with ASU's Division of Marketing and Communications, received several awards for the use of photography in news, advertising campaigns and publication covers.

"It was an honor to receive these awards, and a great experience to spend a week with other university photographers," Campbell said. "I gained a lot of experience that will help me become a bigger asset for Alabama State University."

The UPAA is an international organization of college and university photographers concerned with the application and practice of photography as it relates to the higher education setting. The organization is committed to photographic excellence through continuing education and networking with professional colleagues.

The weeklong workshop consisted of lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and a competitive photography shoot-out, as well as print and publication competitions.

The awards won by ASU are:

* Third Place - Use of Photography in an Advertising Campaign -- Division of Marketing and Communications;
* Honorable Mention - Print - News Photography Category -- David Campbell; and,
* Honorable Mention - Publication Covers -- Division of Marketing and Communications.

ASU competed with colleges and universities from the United States, Australia, Canada and Israel.
