STEM Day summer workshop set for June

University of Maryland Extension 4-H STEM educators invite Somerset and Wicomico county youth to one of two one-day workshops offering fun and informative activities relating to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Participants can choose from an event June 23 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore or June 25 at Christ United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Both events are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Titled "Rise to the Challenge," the workshop is for youth ages 11-14. Activities include skyscraper history as well as the basic design principles behind their success; ballooning history, principles of flight and how balloons are used to investigate scientific problems; the mighty microbes in bread that facilitate it's rising; and the big things happening in the world of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Registration is $20 per person and includes a mid-morning snack and all educational materials; registrants will need to pack a bag lunch that does not require refrigeration. Scholarships and multiple student family discounts are available.
