Allen University selects director of marketing and communications

Allen University hires Anika Cobb as the director of marketing and communications. Cobb will be responsible for developing and implementing the long-term marketing and communications strategy for Allen's brand. Additional duties and responsibilities include cultivating and managing all social media sites, and coordinating media interest in the university.

This position will be an institutional role, serving the needs of the university as a whole, while amplifying the accomplishments of individual departments. As director of marketing and communications, Cobb will fall under the leadership of Allen University's Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Dub Taylor.

"She will play an instrumental part in the university's marketing strategy," Mr. Taylor explained. "In addition to her marketing role, she will help us continue building relationships within the community. I am excited to have her as an addition to our team. Ms. Cobb brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the institution."

Cobb recently served as the communications deputy for the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA), working toward ending domestic and sexual violence in South Carolina through advocacy, education, and preparation. Her work has proved pivotal as the standard for the collective voice of primary prevention in South Carolina.

A social media, content marketing, and communications strategist with a passion for equitable education and students' practical preparation, she has conducted numerous trainings and workshops. Workshops facilitated include but not limited to social media, digital community cultivating, and a parent resource guide, "Supporting Your Seniors: A Parents Guide to a 21st-Century Graduate."

She received a Bachelor of Arts in communication arts from Johnson C. Smith University and a Master of Science in communication with a double minor in integrated communications and advertising and community/public relations from Purdue University.

Cobb has also worked closely with enrollment and retention teams for HBCUs in South Carolina and departmental retention for HBCUs in North Carolina.

She is excited to join the Allen University family and looks forward to moving the president's vision forward.

"I am thankful to God, the president, and leadership for this opportunity," Cobb said. "I am excited about the growth Allen University is experiencing, and I hope to contribute to the upward trajectory of this dynamic institution. I see immense value in Allen University, and I am grateful and delighted to take on this new role and be of equal value."
