The week ended with a dynamic closing worship service by Shaw alumnus, Rev. Doug Williams, Jr.

As part of the 2018 Homecoming festivities, the University hosted its annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet on Thursday, October 25 in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The following Bears were inducted into the 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame:

  • Lonnie Floyd: Track: 2000

  • Conrad Pridgen: Football: 1993

  • Frank Hunter: Football

  • Roderick Wynecoff: Football (Deceased)

On Friday, October 26, the University held its Founder's Day Convocation and EPIC Gala. The Founder's Day Convocation speaker, Dr. James A. Forbes, Jr., gave a rousing speech on the significance of activism at Shaw University. The evening culminated with the EPIC Gala, presented by Cherokee Investments, and featured entertainment by Grammy Award and Tony Award-winning singer, Jennifer Holliday. The gala raised more than $705,000, surpassing the original fundraising goal of $575,000 in student scholarships and campus initiatives.

The celebration continued on Saturday with a Bears Homecoming victory over Winston-Salem State University Rams. The Shaw University football team roared out to a 14-0 lead in the first half, and then used a strong passing game and opportunistic defense to top WSSU at Durham County Memorial Stadium during a nationally televised game. The win marked Shaw's first win on Homecoming since 2014.
