CURE Summer Program Promotes Undergraduate Research
The 2018 Center for Undergraduate Research Excellence (CURE) program is now underway. CURE is a 10-week summer residential program that enhances students' academic experience by exposing undergraduate students to research.
"Each week, students and mentors participate in a series of research-related lectures which can range from qualitative and quantitative research methods to digital mapping," said Nichole Jones, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing. "They are coached on how to make effective professional presentations related to their topics and have the opportunity to volunteer at conferences throughout the summer to gain exposure to professional research presentations."
All majors and University departments are represented among the 32 undergraduate students and 20 faculty mentors. Participants will present their projects at the B-CU 2019 Academic Showcase.
"Since its inception, several individual student projects have been submitted and accepted at national conferences for presentation. All of the students involved in CURE can add research experience to their resumes and graduate and professional school applications," said Associate Provost Adrienne Cooper, Ph.D.
Faculty mentors for CURE are Dr. Daniel Holler, Dr. Joyce Nki, Dr. Dennis Pires, Dr. Cornelius Golden, Dr. Jeanette Ford,  Dr. Baraka Mapp, Dr. Ferdinand Nwafor, Dr. Tracy Almen, Dr. Juan Calderon, Dr. Xiaohe Wu, Dr. Barbara Davis, Dr. Sarah Krejci, Dr. Albert Hayward, Dr. Ahmed Badi, Dr. Matilda Johnson, Dr. Sidney Bolden, Dr. Deborah Wilson, Mr. Nelson Jones, Dr. Nichole Jones and Dr. Timothy Mirth.
The program runs from May through July.
