Union Pacific Railroad donates $40,000 to Jackson State

On October 7th, representatives from Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) visited Jackson State University to present a donation of $40,000 in support of the company's long-standing relationship with the university .

In September 2001, UPRR  and Jackson State  began formulating a strategy to increase overall student awareness/interest in career opportunities with UPRR.  Working in close coordination, qualified students were successfully identified, interviewed and hired by Union Pacific for both internships and full-time positions. Additionally, the College of Business's Career Management and Placement Center is named after Union Pacific Railroad.

Opportunities for all disciplines were sought by Union Pacific Railroad including Marketing, Management, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, and Engineering.  JSU is able to offer a diverse pool of minority candidates from all over the country including Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, MO, TX, and Mississippi.

Currently, there are 29 Jackson State University graduates employed in various departments within Union Pacific Railroad.  Due to the strength of the relationship between Jackson State and UP and the success of collaborative efforts, Jackson State has been recently named as a Tier 1 school for recruiting at Union Pacific.  Union Pacific currently recruits at 23 major universities and colleges and the Tier 1 status that Jackson State has attained allows for funding to be provided to recruit across various academic disciplines, provide scholarships, and support curriculum development.
