WSSU Students Elected Officers of Student North Carolina Association of Educators
Two Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) students were recently elected as officers of the Student North Carolina Association Educators (SNCAE).
Christopher Graham was elected president of the statewide student organization for 2011-2012. Satira Holiday was elected as a state delegate for SNCAE. Both students were elected by their peers and will represent North Carolina at the National Education Association Student Leadership Conference in Chicago from June 30 - July 5.
Eleven SNCAE members attended the annual Spring Conference in Raleigh, earlier this month. Members attended professional development sessions that prepare them for working in classrooms of the future as well as to develop their leadership skills. Session topics included bullying, classroom management and strategies for working with second language learners and exceptional students.
The WSSU students were nominated, campaigned, made speeches and elected all at the conference.
Several other SNCAE member remained in Winston-Salem and co-hosted the Teacher Education Advisement and Partnership Center Attitude Matters Conference with Project Pass and Real Men Teach. Krystal Mackey, an elementary education major, gave the invocation.
The faculty/staff advisors for SNCAE at WSSU are Fran Bates Oates, elementary education program coordinator and Dr. Brenda J. Kennedy, director of student teaching and associate professor of education.
