General Description of the Job

Hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays as scheduled.

Supervises 2 FT staff in the Acquisitions / Cataloging Unit of Technical Services (Library Assistant, Cataloging & Computer Operations and Library Assistant, Acquisitions)

Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
1.In consultation with the coordinator of technical services, develops and implements policies, procedures, standards and goals to continuously improve Acquisitions / Cataloging Unit workflow.
2.Using the Horizon Acquisitions module and the university's accounting system: creates ledgers and funds, records and monitors expenditures, and oversees fiscal closing.
3.Monitors expenditures, vendor payments, encumbrances, and status of orders.
4.Supervises the Library, Assistant Acquisitions to facilitate and expedite the payment of vendor invoices and bills through the university purchasing department.
5.Provides management and oversight of one-time order placement and claiming activities including OCLC Connexion Client cataloging and importing of bibliographic order records supplied by library book vendors.
6.Interacts with selectors to manage ordering, claiming and related order follow-up activities.
7.Evaluate library material selections to ensure no duplicate orders in process.
8.Maintains awareness of copy cataloging standards and trends.
9.Works closely with selectors to purchase e-books.
10.Performs original cataloging in all formats, conforming to the latest national standards. Classifies materials using a variety of classification schemes.
11.Establishes and maintains quality control standards with regard to copy cataloging operations, authority control, data input, and database maintenance.
12.Provides supervision and training for acquisitions and cataloging staff in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and competencies required to improve performance.
13.Supervise the book bindery process.
14.Maintain records of library gifts, donations, bindery and weeded resources.
15.Manage the purchase, receipt, inventory and discard of library equipment.
16.Maintains departmental statistics and prepares reports as requested by the coordinator of technical services or head librarian.
17.Teach research classes and develop LibGuides in assigned subject areas.
18.Performs other duties and projects as assigned by the coordinator of technical services or head librarian.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1.Knowledgeable of LMS systems and library vendor services (Horizon, Midwest Library Services, Yankee Book Peddler and experience with OCLC Connexion).
2.Ability to develop training materials and provide copy cataloging and acquisitions training.
3.Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills; ability to perform complex workflow analyses.
4.Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
5.Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
6.Experience working with library vendor representatives.
7.Extensive knowledge of standard cataloging procedures, including those for e-resources.
8.Knowledge of computer office applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
9.Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
10.Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace and ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population.

Qualification Standards
1.Education: ALA accredited master's degree in library/information science.
2.Successful experience: Three years of relevant work experience in an academic library technical services department including a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
3.Background in cataloging and acquisitions
4.Working knowledge of OCLC Connexion and ILS systems
5.Demonstrated ability to apply the following cataloging tools: Resource Description and Access (RDA), the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2r), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and classification, and MARC21 formats for bibliographic and authority data
6.Demonstrated ability to apply national cataloging policy and practice as determined by the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) and the Library of Congress
