Alcorn State University News November 11, 2020 Alcorn Army ROTC hosts Veterans Day Gaming Challenge on the Campus Green The Department of Military Science at Alcorn State University honored Veterans Day with activities geared toward student fun and preparation for a military career. Students and cadets from Alcorn's Army ROTC participated in the Veterans Day Gaming Challenge on the Campus Green Tuesday, Nov. 10. The gaming challenge allowed students to compete against their peers by playing Madden Football. The event also featured an all-terrain vehicle and motorcycle to show students some of the resources that soldiers use while on duty. Greg Trotnic, an Alcorn Army ROTC recruiter, said that other than fun, the event was essential in providing critical information to students about what they can expect if they pursue a military career. "We wanted to do something special in honors of Veterans Day on campus to show our students what the Army has to offer," said Trotnic. "This is also an opportunity for cadets to see equipment that Army soldiers use, as well as getting information about the Army, military careers, and its benefits. We have several students in the National Guard, so this event will give them ideas on how they can turn their degrees into careers. We also showcased lots of Army careers that offer good benefits." Marshawn Grady, a senior biology/pre-medicine major and cadet, enjoyed the event and all of the information it offered. "It was an interesting experience," said Grady. "They did an awesome job at appealing to the students with their display and knowledge about how we can be successful in the military." SANDRA M.
