Greetings Colleagues,

I enjoyed a delightful conversation today with Laura Johnson, new library director at the Andrew Carnegie Library at historic Livingstone College (NC). Join me in welcoming her to the HBCU Library Alliance.

Laura is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina.  She completed an undergraduate degree in French and a master's in Library Science  at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She earned an advanced degree in Educational Media and completed Principal certification at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Laura is also a graduate of the BRIDGES Academic Leadership for Women at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Throughout her career, Laura has been a Public Librarian, a Media Specialist, coordinated special programs and taught Social Studies.  She retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as a Vice Principal at West Charlotte High School.  She was the Reference Librarian at Livingstone College in 2010 and now serves as the Director of Library Services.

Laura is a very active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.  She is currently the President of the Board of Directors of RPO, Inc., a non-profit serving the needs of girls and women in the Charlotte area.

Laura is excited about the work of the Andrew Carnegie Library and her involvement with the HBCU Library Alliance. We wish her much success and look forward to her participation in Alliance activities.
