PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA APPOINTS CHANCELLOR HAROLD L. MARTIN SR. TO INTERNATIONAL BOARD
In an announcement of key administration posts on Nov. 27, President Barack Obama named North Carolina A&T State University chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. a member of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD).
"The extraordinary dedication these individuals bring to their new roles will greatly serve the American people," President Obama said about Martin and the other appointees. "I am grateful they have agreed to serve in this Administration and I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come."
BIFAD advises USAID on agriculture and higher education issues pertinent to food insecurity in developing countries. The President appoints members, who primarily represent the academic community. BIFAD was established by Title XII of the Foreign Assistance Act. The Board and Title XII recognize the critical role of U.S. land-grant institutions in agricultural development, domestically and abroad, and support their representation in USAID development programs.
Martin has previously served as senior vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina and chief administrator and chancellor at Winston Salem State University. He began his career at N.C. A&T serving in a number of roles including vice chancellor of Academic Affairs, dean of the College of Engineering, electrical engineering program chair and acting electrical engineering program chair.
