Bowie State Production Heads to Regional Competition

Bowie State University students who performed in the campus production of "Lysistrata," last November will take the show on the road to a regional college theater competition sponsored by the Kennedy Center.

Bowie State's production of "Lysistrata" is one of only eight productions from around the country that were invited to perform at the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival-Region IIhttp://kcactf2.org/ at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, which runs from Tuesday, Jan. 14 - Thursday, Jan. 18, 2014. The production has the chance to advance to the national competition at the Kennedy Center in April.

Three students and one alternate also were selected to compete for Irene Ryan scholarship awardshttp://kcactf.org/KCACTF.ORG_NATIONAL/Irene_Ryans.html as part of the regional theater festival. The students could win $500 scholarship and the chance to compete for a national scholarship during the Kennedy Center's national college theater festival.
The students competing for the Irene Ryan awards are:

  • Tamyra Lewis, freshman theatre major
  • Jenae Barber, senior communications major
  • Nana Kebe, junior theatre major
  • Justin Penamon, freshman theatre major
