Dr. Carlen McLin announced as Tuskegee University's Chief of Staff

Tuskegee University president, Dr. Gilbert L. Rochon, has appointed Dr. Carlen Luke McLin as chief of staff at Tuskegee University, effective January 3, 2011.

McLin has had a distinguished career as an administrator and faculty member in higher education at prominent American universities and managerial roles in geriatric healthcare as a Clinical Pharmacist. Prior to accepting the position at Tuskegee University, McLin served as Assistant Dean, Division of the Natural Sciences & Public Health, and Chair of the School of Public Health at Dillard University in New Orleans, LA.  She also previously served as president of the university faculty senate at Dillard University.

In 1989, she was appointed coordinator and charter fellow at the LSU Medical Center, Louisiana Geriatric Center, where she also served as senior geriatric healthcare advisor. Her other work included assistant professor of pharmacy administration at Xavier University College of Pharmacy in New Orleans, LA, assistant dean for student affairs at Xavier University College of Pharmacy, coordinator of the post-baccalaureate PharmD Program and Continuing Education at Xavier University, tenured associate professor of public health at Dillard University and adjunct professor in the health systems management department at Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, LA.

McLin has contributed articles in peer-refereed journals and reports addressing pharmacology, geriatrics and health care education.  She has also conducted over 14 research activities related to the public health field, collaborated on book chapters in a textbook being used in undergraduate public health programs. Additionally, from 2002-2010, Dr. McLin was funded over $1 million dollars (USD) in grants and contracts specifically for undergraduate public health programs as well as discipline specific accreditation/certification.

McLin, a native of New Orleans, earned her Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy with honors from Xavier University, New Orleans, LA, Masters in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and Doctorate in Public Health specializing in health systems management from Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine. She has been inducted into the Pharmacy Honor Society, the Public Health Honor Society and the Honor Society of Health Systems Management.  She is a recipient of the Lawrence Ferring Outstanding Faculty Award and the Women in Pharmacy Leadership Award.

The chief of staff is appointed by the President of Tuskegee University and serves as an integral member of the senior management team and provides advice and counsel to the President as needed.  As chief of staff, she will manage and direct special/strategic projects for the President, oversee the proper functioning of all administrative activities, and serve as the primary liaison for the President, facilitating and developing ongoing relationships with the University's internal and external constituents.

McLin is married to Kevin McLin, Sr. and they are parents of Kevin McLin, Jr.
