Kentucky State University to celebrate the quarantine class of 2020

Kentucky State University President M. Christopher Brown II recently announced his plan to deliver on a promise he made in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic: a standalone commencement for the quarantine class of 2020.

A safe and socially distanced commencement will take place Friday, Oct. 16 at Alumni Stadium at 10 a.m.

"The Spring 2020 commencement will not be combined with the December 2020 class," President Brown said in a message to the campus community in April. "Kentucky State University must give our Spring 2020 class the graduation they earned with even more surprises than originally planned."

The event will feature a celebrity guest artist and, after hearing the voice of the students, a surprise convocation speaker to be announced.

The date and guests were decided after surveying the graduating class.

"It seems only fair that an extra-special celebration will be required to honor the Spring 2020 graduating class," President Brown said in the April message.
