Mary Jo Fayoyin - Sad News

No words are adequate for me to express the loss of Mary Jo, my dear friend.  She was indeed a beautiful, wise and resourceful person who was dedicated to the work of the HBCU Library Alliance and the world of librarianship.  We worked side by side in the University System of Georgia Libraries and the Alliance.  I pray for her family whom she loved so much.  May sweet memories bring comfort and sustain all of her loved ones and dear friends during this very difficult time.  She will forever be connected in my heart as one who was always there for me when I needed a friend to listen to and to face the challenges that come through life.

She will be sorely missed.

We,  here at  Savannah State University, Gordon Library, received this sad news with the greatest surprise and in a state of shock.  Mary Jo was the  Dean of this Library for a long time. I was not at Savannah State when she was the  Dean of the Library
here,  but I met her at HBCU library Alliance meetings in  Atlanta, and ALA Conference meetings and she was very engaging and friendly. We are really saddened and in a state of grief. Our condolences go her family and loved ones. We will sadly
miss you, our friend and colleague, Mary Jo.  Rest In Peace!

I am speechless.  MaryJo was totally committed to the work of the HBCULA  and to student success at Savannah State University.  She was funny and enjoyed a good glass of wine whenever we were being social.  A friend, yes, a respected colleague, yes, and an effective leader compassionate about our profession.

Life is short and our time unknown...often too soon.  Condolences to the family.
