Coahoma’s QEP Initiative to Kickoff Nov. 13

The Coahoma Community College Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) team will present to the CCC campus community the QEP initiative’s guiding tagline for student growth with a kickoff rally. Set for November 13, 2019, at 10 a.m., extracurricular student organizations will lively introduce QEP’s ROAD to Success—Revitalizing Orientation and Advisement Development. The event will take place in the Pinnacle.

The QEP is a five-year assessment that will provide an institutional course of action to improve student learning. While it is a requirement for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmation of accreditation, the QEP provides Coahoma Community College with a valuable opportunity to focus on one area that will enhance student learning.

The creation of this year’s QEP team was a directive of the institution’s governing accreditation body, SACSCOC. The theme shows that the institutional goals line up with core requirements and comprehensive standards of the reaffirmation process.

QEP chair Glynda Duncan hopes to bring excitement to kickoff with several high-energy happenings during the event. The QEP team has been planning the overall composition of the initiative and kickoff for several months.

“The band will march into the Pinnacle along with the cheerleaders throwing freebies with the QEP branding—ROAD to Success,” said Duncan, adding that the Marching Maroon Typhoon will offer more entertainment during the program. “We have art students who have won poster contests, and they will be introduced as well as have their winning posters on display.”

In an interesting twist, attendees will be treated to the CCC choir’s debut of the QEP theme song “Ease on Down the Road (to Success).” Student Government Association members plan to showcase their three-minute video enlightening attendees on the purpose of QEP.

As part of the initiative's main objective, the QEP team started a pilot orientation course to incorporate banking basics, team-building skills, and other advantageous real-world lessons into classroom education at the beginning of the fall semester. Ten of the new orientation courses are scheduled for the 2020 spring semester.
