Hampton University News July 29, 2014 College of Virginia Beach offers new theology, leadership degrees Beginning in October, the Hampton University College of Virginia Beach (COVB), through the University's Religious Studies Program, will offer new degrees in the area of theological education. The courses will include an Associate of Arts degree in Applied Theology with concentrations in Biblical Studies or Church Administration and Management, a Master of Arts in Practical Theology with concentrations in Theological Studies or Worship Studies and a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Leadership or Executive Ministry. Degree offerings will be delivered through several formats to meet the needs of adult learners and working professionals, program coordinators said, including a hybrid model which integrates online and classroom learning, a traditional or in-class model through an Evening Commuter Program, and a Weekend Scholars Program for non-traditional students. The online web-based format of instructional delivery will also be an option for students. "We are excited to offer these courses in theology, specifically since there is an identifiable need and desire for this type of educational offering in our community," said Dr. John Waddell, COVB director. HU Chaplain and Director of the Religious Studies Program, the Rev. Debra Haggins, said the program is a viable avenue for the religious community to further their education. "Hampton University's Religious Studies Program endeavors to provide a solid foundation and additional pathways for ministers and other adults seeking multiple opportunities to obtain accredited degrees in theology, religion and pastoral leadership," she said. Open house events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., July 30 at COVB and 7:00 p.m., Aug. 12 at First Baptist Church of Denbigh in Newport News, Va.
