Coahoma's Dual Enrollment Program Makes Innovative Switch to Online Academy

The Office of Educational Outreach is proud to announce that it will soon be rolling out the High Achievers Online Dual Enrollment Academy. The switch to a web-based program will be offered via Coahoma's online portal CANVAS.

Director of Educational Outreach Letha Richards says that the change to an online format will provide access to a broader range of college courses to school districts in the surrounding five-county service area.

It will reduce the burden of costs for both the district and the college, she said. Students will not be held to a minimum enrollment requirement.

A pilot program has been slated to test out the new program during the current spring semester. This will determine whether or not it will be implemented.

The online course offerings are set to begin this fall. High school students will have the opportunity to take classes like American Literature, Psychology, Computer Concepts and American History. One Saturday will be taken out of each month to allow students to take their exams, ready themselves for the ACT and learn life skills on the main campus from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Students will learn applicable lessons on a range of topics, from financial literacy to essay writing. Refreshments will be prepared after the workshops.
