HU Annual Read-In Selects Dr. William R. Harvey's 'The Principles of Leadership'

The Hampton University School of Liberal Arts and Education has selected Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey's "The Principles of Leadership: The Harvey Leadership Model" as the 2018 Hampton University Read-In book. The 2018 Hampton University Read-In will take place on Monday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. This event is free and open to the public.

"I hope my book can be an inspiration to the future leaders we are developing here at this world-class institution," said Dr. Harvey.  "Sharing the principles that I know make successful leaders with my Hampton University students is truly a blessing. I know they will be able to use my words to help make a positive difference in the world."

In "The Principles of Leadership: The Harvey Leadership Model," Dr. Harvey explains the 10 principles that distinguish effective leaders in life and business. These traits are real game changing for individuals, non-profits, and businesses. Dr. Harvey explains the core traits that everyone should always keep at the center of their being -- for every decision and every interaction.

"As we celebrate 40 years of visionary leadership from Dr. Harvey, it's only right that the School of Liberal Arts and Education selected this latest book," said Dr. Linda Malone-Colon, Dean of Hampton University's School of Liberal Arts and Education. "Dr. Harvey's expertise in leadership in academia and business has been recognized by some of the highest offices in the country and it's an honor to have him share that expertise at the 2018 Read-In."

Since 1988, the Hampton University Department of English has hosted the Hampton University Read-In, an event designed to offer all segments of the University community and surrounding communities the opportunity to focus on one particular book for study and discussion.  Through the years, the department and the School of Liberal Arts and Education have selected, primarily, works of fiction by African-American authors such as Ernest Gaines' "A Gathering of Old Men," Ishmael Reed's "Flight to Canada," Alice Walker's "The Color Purple," Toni Morrison's "A Mercy," Mat Johnson's "PYM: A Novel," Jeff Hobbs' "The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League," Tayari Jones' "Leaving Atlanta." and Michael Eric Dyson's "The Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America."
