Allen University News July 2015 Allen University Cyber Security Workshop for High School students Allen University in collaboration with It-oLogy and Partners for Minorities in Engineering and Computer Science (PMECS) is hosting a Cyber Security Workshop from July 6 through July 9, 2015. The workshop is sponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE-NNSA). As a part of the DOE-NNSA Cyber Security Consortium, twenty-eight high school students from South Carolina and North Carolina via a residential workshop on the campus of Allen University have a unique opportunity to receive an introduction to Cyber Security. Students will acquire knowledge and basic skills required to identify risk and learn how to participate in risk mitigation activities. The workshops focus on four themes: Understanding Threats, Securing Your Devices, Staying Safe Online and Home Network Security. Students are learning how to apply security controls to maintain confidentiality, integrity, identify appropriate technologies and products. In addition the students are learning how to troubleshoot security events and incidents, and how to operate with an awareness of applicable policies, laws, and regulations. We are proud to be a part of leading the future for students interested in cyber security and the important milestones ahead. There is a critical need to fill the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals in the U.S. job market, while also diversifying the pipeline of talent in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
