Hampton University News February 11, 2019 Hampton University to Host Inaugural Literary Festival, Saturday, April 6, 2019 The Hampton University William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library and the Department of English and Foreign Languages, will host the inaugural Hampton University Literary Festival on Saturday, April 6, from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the Hampton University Student Center Ballroom. This event is designed to uniquely showcase creative writing and publishing in the Hampton Roads community. "This Literary Festival is sure to be a great event to help expose and celebrate literature to not only Hampton University students, staff and faculty, but to the entire Hampton Roads community," said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey. The Hampton University Literary Festival will feature a panel of local published writers, including Dr. Laurie Jean Cannady, Dr. Ngozi M. Obi, and Ran Walker, discussing the business of writing and publishing, as well as a keynote address by bestselling author and Hampton University alumna, Victoria Christopher Murray. Murray's books have been featured on the Essence Bestsellers' list, and her novel, "Stand Your Ground," won the 2016 NAACP Image Award in Outstanding Literary Work. There will be an additional "ask the author" session hosted by Murray. The event will also host a variety of vendors including indie authors, local bookstores, and publishers. "This will be a dynamic event, which will allow Hampton University to celebrate diverse authors and literature within our community," said Tina Rollins, Director for the William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library. "We are honored to present this inaugural event and invite all to come and join us in engaging presentations and discussions."
