NSU Hosts Wounded Warrior Games Trials
Nearly 400 people attended a sporting competition for Navy servicemen and servicewoman this week at Norfolk State University's William "Dick" Price Stadium.
NSU hosted the track and field trials for the Wounded Warrior Games at the University. More than 60 members from the Navy and U.S. Coast Guard participated in track and field events such as discus, shot put, and several running events. The winners from the trials will move on to compete in the national Warrior Games at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, this fall.
Attendees watched servicemen and servicewomen who have been wounded, injured or ill compete in contests. Organizers said the games help the morale of veterans and showcases their perseverance despite the challenges they've had to overcome.
The athletes will compete in seven contests during the overall games. They include archery, cycling, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball and track and field.
