Alcorn's Extension Program to host 4th annual Community Resource Development Conference

"Enhancing Community Leadership" is the theme of the Alcorn State University Extension Program (ASUEP) 4th annual Community Resource Development (CRD) Conference, that will be held October 23-25, 2013, at the Hilton Jackson Hotel, 1001 East County Line Road in Jackson, Mississippi, according to Katrina McLin, area CRD educator and conference chair.

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., and various concurrent sessions and other festivities will be featured throughout the day ending with a luncheon.

"This year's conference theme is specifically designed to educate those interested in community development about the important challenges and opportunities facing such efforts. A focal point of this year's conference is the cultivation of community leaders by building a strong model for success," McLin said.

Conference highlights include topics on business, non-profit, economic, faith-based development and grant writing. This year's opening keynote speaker is Colonel Russell L. Honore', retired lieutenant general, 33rd commanding general, U.S. First Army, Fort Gilliem, Georgia.

Alcorn State University President M. Christopher Brown II and Tougaloo College President Beverly Hogan, will serve as luncheon keynote speakers. Mrs. Gladys Washington, program director, Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, will facilitate an early bird session "Embracing Community Leadership".

"The attendees can look forward to networking, sharing ideas and information, gaining knowledge about business development, cooperative development, funding opportunities, faith-based opportunities, grant writing and much more," explained McLin.

This conference is open to organizers, community leaders, administrators, educators and all persons interested in making communities better.
