Hampton University News October 27, 2017 Hampton University Kicks Off $150 Million Campaign >From the marching band to the dancers and cheerleaders, Pirate pride could be felt all across Hampton University's campus as the "Dream No Small Dream" campaign to raise $150 million kicked off this afternoon in historic Ogden Hall. Standing before Hampton University's board of trustees, faculty, students and staff, President Dr. William R. Harvey opened the ceremony with some encouraging words. "These are exciting times for Hampton University," Harvey said. "Our future is bold." Harvey encouraged the enthusiastic crowd to see "no limit" to their contributions. He reminded them that funding has allowed Hampton University to achieve its success by attracting the best faculty, the most talented students, producing outstanding academic programs, building world-class research facilities, and improving technology. "I want to thank all of you for all you have done for this place we call our 'Home by the Sea,'" Harvey said. "I look forward to partnering with you as we grow to even higher heights. We know where we are going and by working together, I promise you, nobody can deter us." Harvey's words of encouragement were followed by a speech from Hampton University alumna Wilma Harper Horne ('64 and '68). Her recent gift in excess of 7-figures has helped the university inch closer to its overall goal, which currently stands at $125 million. "My philosophy is give early, give regularly and give as much as you feel grateful for what your life is at that moment," Horne said. Horne's contributions and support for Hampton University resulted in Hampton University's Science and Technology building being named after her, an accomplishment she said is one of the greatest she has achieved during her lifetime.
