Alabama State University News October 30, 2017 ASU Hosts 24th Career Day with Alumni The University's annual Career Day with Alumni affords students the opportunity to gain valuable career advice from alumni. ****** More than 40 Alabama State University alumni were back in the classroom Monday, Oct. 30, sharing career advice with current ASU students as part of the 24th annual Career Day with Alumni. The event, sponsored by the Alabama State University National Alumni Association (ASUNAA), the Office of Alumni Relations and the Office of Career Services, attracts alumni from various career fields to speak to students who often are still deciding which careers to pursue. ASU President Quinton T. Ross spoke briefly during the luncheon. He said that he owes all his success to what he learned at ASU. "This is our ASU and the deposits that we're doing today are the same deposits that you gave me as a student," Ross said. "Had it not been for ASU there is no telling where I would be today. These hallowed grounds have produced some of the greatest alumni and it's going to take all of us to move ASU forward the next 150 years." The returning alumni visited classrooms, shared inspirational stories and lessons learned in the workforce, and participated in speed networking session. "Speaking to students for Career Day was definitely an honor. Being a graduate of ASU provided the educational foundation that afforded me the opportunity to start my business career in Marketing," said Valerie Dixon, a 1998 graduate. "I was excited to come back to share my professional work experiences, challenges, and accomplishments in hopes students could better understand what to expect in the corporate world." The NAA also awarded $1,000 in monetary prizes during its luncheon to several students who participated in the resume writing contest. SANDRA M.
