Webinar - Cybersecurity: Where do I fit in?
Thursday, April 18, 2:00 ET
Kevin Banks, Atlanta University Center Woodruff Library

Abstract: Cybersecurity threats seem to multiply at every turn; from the breaches that make national news to the breaches that occur daily but quietly remain under the radar. It is a challenging time to be a cybersecurity professional and at times, even more challenging to be the end user. Why? Frequently it is not the technology, but in fact the end user that is "hacked."  Information Technology professionals work around the clock to protect environments.  Companies have invested billions of dollars to produce hardware and software meant to secure networks and data. However, the end user often feels defenseless against the multitude of threats that always persist. During this session we will discuss types of cyber threats and ways to help you identify and avoid falling victim to "the hack."

Take-Aways:  From this session, participants will gain:

  • An understanding of cybersecurity and its importance in libraries

  • Knowledge of the different types of cyber threats

  • Strategies to protect your data and tips for safe computing

Instructor: Kevin Banks is a Senior Solutions Architect for Innovative Vision Technologies, Inc. (IVT) an IT consulting and managed services firm.  In this capacity he provides system and network engineering, information security and technology leadership services to municipal government, higher education, financial, faith-based, non-profit and corporate organizations.  Specifically in the area of higher education, he serves as the CIO/IT Director of the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library. Prior to IVT he was the Senior Systems Engineer for the Harvey Library at Hampton University.  Kevin holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Morehouse College and a Master's degree in Computer Science with an emphasis in Information Security from James Madison University.
