Cheyney Senior's Class Project will Teach Future Psychology Students & Others Worldwide via the Internet

Lugene Kennebrew, a Keystone Honors Academyhttp://www.cheyney.edu/keystone/About.cfm Scholar expected to graduate from Cheyney University with a degree in Liberal Studies this month, spread his wings this semester, enrolling in a demanding psychology senior-level course that he hopes will aid him in getting into law school. The hybrid course, taught by Dr. Christopher Barnes, requires students to use out-of-class time to conduct research with human subjects. Additionally, the course requires three types of quizzes to progress through each chapter that promote different levels of learning consistent with Bloom's Taxonomy. Wave 1 quizzes promote Reading, Wave 2 quizzes promote Knowledge and Comprehension (Levels 1 and 2), and Wave 3 quizzes promote Application (Level 3).
No stranger to the spotlight or being creative, Kennebrew, a 46-year-old non-traditional student, asked Dr. Barnes if he could do something original and enterprising to showcase his understanding of the course material. Barnes gave him the green light.
According to Kennebrew, "Experimental Psychology is like no other college course I've ever taken." He came up with a unique way to promote Creativity (Level 6). Instead of following the traditional syllabus, Kennebrew created an audio/visual finalhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boMo7qCYlvQ&feature=youtu.be that resulted in a catchy musical video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boMo7qCYlvQ&feature=youtu.be that accurately introduces the viewer to the concepts of Reliability and Validityhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boMo7qCYlvQ&feature=youtu.be.
"I wanted to do a final project that would lend itself to being more of a tutorial presentation rather than just a powerpoint regarding the subject matter," he explained.  "When I presented it to Dr. Barnes, he was very excited about it. He spent time walking me through his curriculum and his pedagogy. It was a great learning experience for me and I'm very thankful for the opportunity."
"I am so proud of the work that he completed," gushed Dr. Barnes. "It is arguably one of the finest products that I have ever received from a student in any class. I gave him permission to be different out of respect of him being a standout student in my course."
Kennebrew's video can now be viewed on Youtube and Dr. Barnes plans to incorporate it into the course going forward. In fact, the professor has already added the song to his Google Play account.
Earlier in the semester, Kennebrew released I Can't Breathehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZPUYfAOe50&feature=youtu.be a song he wrote and composed for his senior thesis which looked at the pervasive racial disparities and human injustices faced by many within today's culture. He spent time during the semester shooting a video to go alon with his new release.
Kennebrew transferred to Cheyney in 2014 after earning an Associate's degree in Organizational Leadership from Harcum College. Although teaching music or philosophy is something that he'd love to do one day, he's hoping to get a full ride to law school via the Bond Hill Programhttp://www.cheyney.edu/keystone/Graduate-Programming-Professional-Development.cfmwhich provides full scholarships for eligible Cheyney University graduates continuing their studies in professional programs, including law at University of Pittsburgh, Penn State and Temple Universities.
